Personal Improvement: The Value of Reflective Thinking

Taking the time to stop and reflect helps us to learn from the daily lessons in life. To increase your growth potential, you must turn experiences into insight. Daily experiences can be a great teacher if we learn from them. Learning can only truly happen if you take the time to reflect upon the outcome of your daily events. Unfortunately, many people learn nothing from innumerable experiences because they never take the time to look in the mirror and reflect.

The study of highly successful people reveals they routinely spend quite a bit of time alone in reflective thinking.  Time alone helps us to put our experiences into perspective, sort out the winning experiences from the losers, learn from our mistakes, and plan for the future. Start by establishing a good time and place to reflect. When you reflect, focus on asking yourself a lot of questions; in order to learn and discover the truth, you must investigate within your mind; you need to stop and really figure things out. Listen intently to your inner conversation until you discover that “aha” moment.
